Reggaenews Introducing: Dwayne Knight a.k.a. Slash
Slash – InfantKilla
Born on the 19 March 1982, Dwayne Knight (SLASH) was delivered at the Spanish Town Public Hospital in St.Catherine. SLASH grew up in the community of Portmore (West Meade) with his mother, father, brothers and sisters. The fact that he was the fifth of seven siblings encouraged the early development of his musical talent, so as to receive attention from
areas outside of the normal familial structure.
SLASH attended Naggo Head Infant & Primary School and later Bridgeport High School. At school he showed great interest in the Business subjects and Sporting activities. He was quiet and soft spoken, with a charming personality which caught the admiration of both teachers and classmates alike.
SLASH was introduced to (DJ) Dance Hall Music by watching popular singers such as Michael Buckley, who lived nearby. Michael would play his sound system where he would belt out his original tracks as well as those of other popular artistes. Every now and again Dwayne would get a chance to express himself and develop his skills. At the age of fourteen he took his music interest to next level where he began to write his own lyrics, his first was a counteraction to a popular “RED RAT” song; “Mi would a shame”.
Dwayne improved his skills by frequenting the Portmore party and dancehall scenes in, particular the Cactus Night Club. He quickly became the crowd favorite with the Portmore dance hall critics, who thought he possessed “good potential’’. This encouraged him to from his own group; ‘Cell Block’. With the help of producer Ray Stephens of the Dog House Production Label (which later changed to Vertex Records), SLASH was able to record two collaborations with Vybz Kartel which got heavy rotation on the local cable station, but one was never released due to management conflict issues. Kartel, realizing Slash’s talents encouraged him to join his label; ‘Adijahiem’ on which released one of the collaboration “BADMAN NUH BOW”.
SLASH later did some tracks on the CD mix called “ART OF WAR” with various artistes such as COBRA, KARTEL, BOUNTY KILLER, BUSY SIGNAL, IDONIA, SHANO, and SCHOOL BOY. Slash also did a song on the MEDALLION rhythm called “POOR PEOPLE”, which was produce by Richard Mahabeer, who is the owner of Mainframe Recorders. With such a great song like POOR PEOPLE which is being played locally and internationally and the love and dedication for the music the shy is the limit for this upcoming artist SLASH, look out for him!
